WOWVision! HDTV QUIZ

How do you know if you are really watching HDTV? That is actually a difficult question to answer. There are many factors to consider, from equipment to settings. You may have all of the equipment in place, but as I have witnessed in the field, you may still be watching Standard Definition TV or Enhanced definition TV, but NOT HDTV. Some people are "technically" watching HDTV but are lacking the "WOW!" that defines it.

Check out this article, the latest of a string of consistent reports concerning HDTV viewing in America.

Customers buying HDTVs, but do they get HD?
Customers are lugging HDTVs home by the truckload, but, according to a study by the Leichtman Research Group, almost half of the 24 million U.S. HDTV households aren't actually getting HD signals. Leichtman found that some of those same customers, about 6 million, don't even realize they're not actually watching HDTV. Denver Rocky Mountain News (4/30)

To assist you in determining your situation, we have created this easy HDTV QUIZ. Answer these simple questions, honestly, and you can determine if you need assistance.

    1. Does your HDTV make you say "WOW!"?

If it doesn't make you say "WOW!", something is wrong.

    2. Do you KNOW that you're watching HDTV?

If you aren't sure that you're watching HDTV, then you probably aren't.

    3. Has your significant other forgiven you for spending the money on HDTV?

If your significant other is still upset with the outlay of money, then they probably haven't seen it.

    4. Did your family, friends, and co-workers say "WOW!" or "That's nice."?

"That's nice" is the wrong answer.

    5. Are your HD channels drastically different (BETTER) than your other channels?

If they aren't drastically different, then you're not watching HD.

    6. Do you choose HD channels for picture quality over SD channels for content?

If you haven't changed your viewing habits to accommodate your HD programming, you're probably not watching HD.

    7.  Do your HD programs look ABSOLUTELY REAL to life as if you are looking out a window to the world?

If it doesn't look nearly or absolutely real, then you probably aren't watching HDTV or you need to change your HDTV settings/enhancements, cable or satellite box settings, or have a calibration.

    8. Have you concluded that HDTV is just a bunch of hype?

If you think HDTV is just a bunch of hype, then you haven't seen it.

    9. Have you been wondering if you have HD, and just took this quiz?

If you are wondering whether or not you have HD, then you probably aren't watching HDTV.

You have a right to an antenna!

The rule prohibits most restrictions that: (1) unreasonably delay or prevent installation, maintenance or use; (2) unreasonably increase the cost of installation, maintenance or use; or (3) preclude reception of an acceptable quality signal.

Q: Who do I call if my town, community association or landlord is enforcing an invalid restriction?
A: Call the Federal Communications Commission at (888) CALLFCC (888-225-5322), which is a toll-free number, or 202-418-7096, which is not toll-free. Some assistance may also be available from the direct broadcast satellite company, broadband radio service provider, television broadcast station, or fixed wireless company whose service is desired.
